One of the key features of any wedding are the wedding flowers. Truly beautiful wedding flowers really stand out in the memories of both the participants and the guests. One of the favored wedding flowers for both the arrangements and bouquets is the calla lily. Couples arranging a grand, lovely ceremony should at least consider adding a calla lily or two to their centerpieces and bouquets.

The calla lily originated in southern Africa, and is known for its striking colors and fingerlike spadix. They are so populous and long lasting in some parts of Africa that they are considered to be a weed. The natural calla lily is far too large to be effectively used as a display flower, but like tulips, years of engineering and contained growth patterns have created calla lilies for every occasion and in dozens of different colors. Thus, the beautiful bowl shaped weed has found an audience throughout the world.

A calla lily bouquet is the most popular usage of the flower, and the variety of the colorings ensure they can be fit to just about any occasion. A nice grouping of 200 white calla lily flowers, enough to make centerpieces for a moderately sized banquet, sells for around $400. Most individuals purchasing floral arrangements for weddings don't buy or put them together themselves, so it's important to check out the florist's prices if the calla lily bouquet is going to be at the center of the wedding. They are a unique flower and some colors can be hard to obtain, so the price can be expected to vary significantly from florist to florist depending on supply.

Of course, the calla lily finds some of its greatest popularity in bridal bouquets. Bridal bouquets featuring calla lilies have become especially popular in elegant and expensive ceremonies, though it isn't difficult to replicate an extremely elegant looking calla lily bouquet wholesale. The most important thing to remember is that due to their size and unique shape, calla lilies are destined to become the focal point of any bridal bouquets. The other colors and flowers of the bouquet are going to have to play off the this stunning flower.

For more permanence and a cheaper option to buying the often admittedly costly calla lily, many companies make synthetic or silk calla lilies. Admittedly, they might lack some of the vibrancy and scent of the real thing, but silk calla lilies still look wonderful and last forever. If nothing, the silk calla lily is great for brides with allergies. A nice bouquet featuring silk calla lilies will retail around $23, a steal compared to the real flower.

Most couples don't usually think of the calla lily as their first choice for wedding flowers. It isn't a part of the national consciousness like the rose. But they are starting to gain some traction as lovely centerpieces for weddings across the U.S. As the colors, styles, and sizes continue to branch out, it's very conceivable that the calla lily will become a fixture of weddings.
